General Introduction
The word hepatitis means inflammation of liver in general which is called as kala piliya. Liver cells are known as hepatocytes .
liver is a major and very essential organ of human body and plays vital role , it helps in metabolism of food , drugs in our body , secretes that helps in digestion of food properly , it helps in formation of few essential vitamins like vitamin k and vitamin D , also helps in maintaining immunity and hormones balance .

TYPES OF HEPATITIS ?
Generally there five types of hepatitis that is hepatitis A ,B,C,D,E and F .out of these hepatitis A,D,E is caused by oral faecal route that generally happens due to infective environment , food or water and hepatitis B , C are caused by virus and are not infective one but transmit via blood or fluid of infective person .Out of all these hepatitis B and C are very dangerous if not treated on time as they can lead to liver cirrhosis and ultimately can cause liver failure .
HEPATITIS A
Hepatitis A is caused by HAV and the virus spreads when uninfected person eat food or water contaminated by faeces of infected person . the disease has strong link with the unhygienic and poor sanitation.
Hepatitis A in chronic state is not fatal and Unlike hepatitis B and C it does not cause chronic liver disease but its acute infection could sometimes lead to liver failure and that could be fatal.
CAUSES OF HEPATITIS A
It is caused by the HAV virus that enters body via faecal-oral route which happens when-
- Uninfected person ingest food or water infected by faeces of infected person
- During floods
- Improper sanitation
- Food prepared by unhygienic hands
- Contaminated sewage
- Unhygienic oral sex
SYMPTOMS OF HEPATITIS A
The incubation period of hepatitis is about 14-28 days and symptoms can vary from mild to severe depending upon the severity of the disease and immunity of an individual.
Symptoms that appear during its infection are –
- Fever
- Malaise
- Diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Abdominal pain
- Indigestion
- Dark coloured urine
- Jaundice
- Nausea

- Safe sexual practices
- Maintain personal hygiene

HEPATITIS B
hepatitis B is one of the dangerous type for liver and can cause more severe form of illness that includes cirrhosis and liver cancer.Hepatitis B causing virus is known as HBV. It has long incubation period that is of 30-180 days
CAUSES OF HEPATITIS B
The virus passes from person to person through body fluids like blood , semen or any other fluid.
- Unprotected sex with infected partner
- From mother to child
- Using razor and toothbrush with infected person
- By practicing unsafe tattooing
SYMPTOMS
- Pain in abdomen
- Joint pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Poor appetite
- Fever
- Weakness
- Fatigue

- Dark urine
- Clay coloured stool
ACUTE HEPATITIS
It is initial stage of hepatitis which lasts for less than six months .
CHRONIC HEPATITIS
It is followed by acute hepatitis and infection lasts for more than six months and if not treated can cause severe problem like liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.
HEPATITIS C
hepatitis C is also the common type of virus that infect people in the world, it occurs due to HCV virus. It’s severity can range from mild illness to lifelong disease and it is the major cause for leading liver cancer
The route of infection is hematogenous that is through blood and it causes both acute and chronic infection .
CAUSES OF HEPATITIS C
It is caused by HCV virus which enters body through blood route and leads to inflammation of the liver , the incubation period of the virus is from 2 weeks to 6 months . as per the immunity of the patient the severity of infection varies .
It is blood borne and can be transmitted through –
- Transfusion of infected blood
- Reusing Infected needles and syringes
- Sharing of razors
- Injecting infected needles for drug abuse
- Unsafe sexual practices
- It can also pass from mother to child
- exposure to infected blood by any source
- By practicing unsafe tattooing
Also keep in mind that it does not spread through the following-
- Breast milk of infected mother
- By sharing food and utensils with infected person
- By physical contact like hugging and kissing.
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms again depend on the severity of the disease and also on the immunity of the person
In some people due to stronger immunity the virus does not affect liver to that extent that it will show symptoms , so some are asymptomatic .
Even people who are chronically affected by the virus also do not show any such symptoms
In acute conditions and less immune people symptoms mentioned below can be seen –

- Avoid junk food items

- Drink more liquid and coconut water .
